Soundbase Oldham street will now be open 9.30am-8pm on thursdays. Staying late so all you night owls can grab the latest in DJ tech, Recording equipment and last minute guitar strings for the gig that night.

Beatport officially expanded into the world of digital distribution last night by unveiling a new company called Baseware. According to a press release, Baseware aims to simplify the process of digital distribution for artists and labels, thereby helping them get their music on big digital streaming and retail sites. Beatport CEO Matt Adell explained the idea in a written statement: "Baseware, first and foremost, is about breaking down the barriers to getting your music heard—and actually getting paid for it—through distribution to Beatport, iTunes, Spotify, Rdio, Stompy, mobile and tablet applications, and whatever comes next." The company is managed by Jon Lemmon, a DJ and label owner who formerly ran another digital distribution company, OSEAO. It's up and running as of today—artists and labels interested in the service can enter their contact information on the homepage and expect a response within a few days.

This week sees the release of the latest version of Maschine software. Currently on version 1.7.1 the update has the following improvements.
New and improved features:
Advanced sound browsing and parameter mapping for KOMPLETE 8 Support for Maschine Mikro controller iMaschine project import New Controller Editor 1.4.0 included Various minor improvements and fixesIn addition to this the 1st of October will see the release of a slimmed down version of the already popular Maschine hardware. At around two-thirds the size and weight of its older brother and is based on the same full-featured software. The same 4x4 matrix of pressure-sensitive pads have been employed on Maschine Mikro, with the savings on size coming via a single display (Maschine has two) and "a dynamically assigned high-resolution master encoder." Its release will also signal version 1.7 of the Maschine software, which promises better integration with the instruments and effects in the new Komplete bundles. Maschine Mikro will also feature the same 6GB sample library as Maschine. The below video features the nimble-fingered Jeremy Ellis putting the new unit through its paces. NI has also today announced details of iMaschine, an iPhone/iPod touch app that allows users to knock-up grooves when they're on the go and transfer them into the full Maschine software. iMaschine features four tracks, sampling, effects and a selection of instruments and drum sounds from the master Maschine library.
